Orange Cookies

  • 2 cups sugar – scant
  • 1 cup Crisco – 1/2 butter for flavor
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • rind and juice of 1 juicy orange
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar icing: 1 tablespoon of butter melted; juice of one or two oranges and powdered sugar to form consistency of icing to spread on warm cookies.
