Rich raisin squares

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup(?) semi-sweet chocolate bits
  1. Melt shortening.
  2. Beat egg lightly and stir in sugar and shortening.
  3. Blend in flour, salt, and baking powder.
  4. Stir in vanilla, raisns and chocolate bits.
  5. Spread in a greased 8 inch square baking pan.
  6. Bake in moderate oven 350° about 35 minutes.
  • Makes 16 squares.
