Purple Plum Pinwheels

  • 4 cups coarsely chopped fresh plums
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup coarsely cut walnuts
  • 3 tablesp. melted butter
  • 2 cups sifted all purpose flour
  • 3 teasp. baking powder
  • 1/2 teasp. salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  1. Combine and mix plums, sugar, nuts, and butter. Let stand while making dough.
  2. Sift dry ingredients into mixing bowl.
  3. Cut in butter until the size of small peas.
  4. Beat egg and milk and add to flour/butter mixture.
  5. Turn out on floured board, shape into ball.
  6. Roll into a rectangle 3/8 in. thick and 15 in. long.
  7. Spread 1 1/2 cups or little more of plum mixture over dough.
  8. Pour remaining mixture into 9 in. square baking pan.
  9. Roll dough tightly like a jelly roll starting at wide side. Seal edges.
  10. Cut like a jelly roll in 12 even slices.
  11. Place slices on fruit mixture.
  12. Bake 350° (for ???)
  • Serve warm with cream or whipped cream
